A district panchayat CEO was trapped today by the Lokayukta Police for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 for extending relief to a former sarpanch, a senior official said.

On a tip-off, Burhanpur district panchayat CEO Amitabh Sirvaiyya was caught by Lokayuta Police after he accepted Rs 25,000 from a person for providing relief to a former sarpanch of Biroda village, said Lokayukta DySP Praveen Singh Baghel.

Sirvaiyya had allegedly demanded Rs one lakh for settling a case against the former sarpanch related to the alleged irregularities in developmental works, the officer said.

The CEO was caught as soon as the complainant handed him the cash, he said.

Sirvaiyya has been booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is underway, Baghel added.
