A former MLA from Morena has approached the police alleging that he has received phone calls threatening him to cough up Rs one crore in extortion, an official said today.

Based on the complaint lodged by Paras Ram Mudgal yesterday, police have identified a suspect from Nagra village in the district, according to a senior official.

Mudgal said he received the threat calls from two different numbers yesterday wherein the unidentified caller asked him to either pay Rs one crore or face consequences.

"The caller threatened to kill me and asked me to pay the money. When I asked him why he wanted to kill me, he merely said that my time has come," he said.

The former legislator said he has informed district superintendent of police and Kotwali police station in-charge about the incident.

Kotwali police station in charge Yogendra Jadon today said though a case was registered against unidentified persons, police have identified the suspect as a resident of Nagra village.

"After keeping the caller's number under surveillance, we have identified the suspect and are searching for him. Further investigation is underway," Jadon added.
