Madhya Pradesh Cooperative Department will conduct a 'Ghar Wapasi' (Return to Home) campaign to associate farmers with co-operative banks and co-operative credit societies.

"A month long 'Ghar Wapasi' campaign would be conducted from January 26 to February 26. Farmers would be urged to associate with co-operative banks in place of commercial banks," Minister of State for Co-operative (Independent Charge) Vishwas Sarang said today.

The minister in a meeting yesterday reviewed the implementation of the recommendations made during 'Sahkari Mathan' programme held in September last year.

Sarang said farmers are not able to avail benefits of several government schemes as they are not members of cooperative banks and credit societies.

Moreover, farmers are unable to take benefit of loan at the zero per cent interest rate and 10 per cent subsidy on the principal amount of the loan.

"By becoming a member of co-operative bank or a credit societies, farmers can avail these benefits. So, this campaign has been planned," Sarang said.

He further informed that the implementation on 74 out of 132 recommendations made during the 'Sahkari Manthan' has been started.

"Several positive and good results have been obtained in the co-operative sector by initiating action on the basis of these recommendations. Increase in the cooperative banks' deposit has been registered from the month of September to December, 2016," he added.

The minister also informed that a recovery of Rs 400 crore has been made after paddy and maize crop procurement, which was earlier only Rs 100 crore.

He said that NABARD has provided an additional amount of Rs 1,800 crore to the Apex Bank under the refinance scheme this year.

"Cooperative sector has been expanded. Year-long training calendar is being prepared for people connected with the cooperative movement," he added.
