A 17-year-old girl was allegedly set afire in Kagdipura area here by her sister's husband, his mother and other relatives following a family dispute, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday when the victim identified as Manisha Ahirwar was alone in her house and her sister's husband and others allegedly set her afire at her place by pouring kerosene on her, police said.

The victim's sister married Monu Rajput after eloping with him and since then the two families quarrelled over some issue or the other, police said.

Yesterday when she was alone, Monu along with his mother, Battibai, and four others allegedly set her afire following which she suffered 95 per cent burns.

She was immediately rushed to Bhopal's Hamidia Hospital in serious condition.

In her statement to the Executive Magistrate, the victim said that Monu along with his mother, Sonu Khatik, Sunder Singh, Rakesh Khatik and Anuj arrived at her place and set her afire by pouring kerosene over her to settle scores with her family.

After that they escaped from the spot and later neighbours rushed her to a local hospital from where she was referred to Bhopal, police said.

On basis of Manisha's statement, police arrested Monu, Sonu, Sunder and Rakesh under section 307 of the IPC while Battibai and Anuj are still absconding.
