The Madhya Pradesh government today said it has not backtracked from working on the multi- crore metro train projects in Indore and Bhopal.

"We have not backtracked from working on metro train projects in Indore and Bhopal. According to the centre's new metro policy, we are exploring the possibilities to kick start it," Madhya Pradesh Urban Development and Housing Minister Maya Singh told reporters on the sidelines of the function here.

"Our metro project was bigger than other states and its stretches to 200 km in Indore and Bhopal," she added.

The project has hit the roadblock due to financial constraints. The state government has cleared the detailed project report (DPR) of the metro project worth Rs 14,485.55 crore in December.

In a written reply in Madhya Pradesh Assembly in March this year, Singh had said that Japan International Co- operation Agency (JICA) has refused to fund the metro project after expressing the initial interest.
