The relationship between Shivam construction company and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should be probed, Digvijay told reporters last night at the airport here before leaving for Maheshwar.

"The MP government may say anything but everyone knows that a lot of illegal mining activity was going on in the state. There is an urgent need to check and control all such mining activity", Singh said.

Meanwhile, a Madhya Pradesh government spokesman today described Digvijay Singh's allegations as "baseless and politically inspired".

The spokesman said even the CBI, in its charge sheet filed in the murder of IPS officer Narendra Kumar, had admitted that it was an accident which had nothing to do with the mining mafia.

"In view of all this, there is nothing much to be said about Singh's allegations, he said.

Digvijay Singh had also said that the manner in which BJP president Nitin Gadkari touched the feet of yoga guru Ramdev, who has been issued several notices on charges of making black money, indicated the "level of the BJP".

The Congress was working hard for the June 12 by-election in Maheshwar Assembly constituency and the result would be in the party's favour, he said replying to a question.

Wanting the Madhya Pradesh government to reduce the VAT on petrol, Singh blamed the soaring price of crude oil in the international market for the hike in petrol prices.
