Madhya Pradesh government today said the timing to conduct postmortems in district hospitals across the state will be extended to twelve hours per day within a year.

"The timing to conduct autopsies will be increased to 12 hours (8 AM to 8 PM) within a year," Health Minister Narottam Mishra said in the Assembly while replying to a call attention motion of BJP MLA Yashpal Singh Sisodia.

At present, postmortems are conducted from 8 AM to 6.30 PM daily.

Sisodia said the current timing was of that period "when lantern, chimney and other things were used (to conduct such procedure)".

"But now, with 24-hour power supply in the state, the timing of conducting autopsies should be increased," he said.

Stating that the delay in conducting postmortems, leads to dispute and anger among the kin of the deceased, he demanded that the timing be increased to 10 PM.

To Which the Health Minister said that all facilities will be developed to conduct the autopsies from 8 AM to 8 PM within a year.
