The Madhya Pradesh High Court today granted permission for holding a government function at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS) here on June 23 to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A division bench comprising Justices Vivek Rusia and S K Awasthi gave permission to hold the "Swachhata Parv" function while allowing a review petition of the MP government and others.
In 2009, the MP High Court had ordered that its permission was a must to hold an event that is not related to sports at the JNS.
The vacation bench of the HC today observed, "Manoj Dwivedi, learned Additional Advocate General, submits that a team of the NSG has inspected the suitable places available at Indore for organising this programme, to which the office of the Prime Minister of India has given consent."
"As per the recommendation of the NSG, Nehru Stadium is a suitable place, looking at the security of the prime minister," it said.
"He further submits that this programme is organised by the state government through local administration and there is no political activity involved in it," the bench said.
"With the consent of parties and keeping in view the aforesaid, present review petition is allowed. The petitioners are permitted to organise the public programme of the Prime Minister of India in the name of "Swachhata Parv" on 23.06.2018," the HC order read.
"However, it is made clear that after the aforesaid programme, the petitioners shall restore the stadium in its original condition within three days after the function," the order added.
