MP mishap: Toll mounts to 25

The death toll in the bus-truck collision in Madhya Pradesh has risen to 25 with four more persons succumbing to their injuries, police said today.

"A total of 25 people have died so far, with four persons succumbing to their injuries late last night, after a private bus collided with a truck on Khandwa-Indore Road in Khandwa district last evening," Khandwa SP M S Sikarwar told PTI.

Of the thirteen injured persons, the condition of six remains serious, he said.

The accident occurred near Choti Chhaegaon Makhan area, around 7 kms from here, when the Khandwa-bound bus, carrying 38 passengers, rammed into the truck which was headed towards Indore.
 

According to police, both the vehicles were speeding at the time of the mishap.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has already announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1.5 lakh to the kin of the victims and Rs 50,000 to the injured persons.

A probe has also been initiated into the matter.
