A police officer was today caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 for not implicating a youth in a rape case.

Silvani police station in-charge R B Katiyar allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh from an auto parts shop owner, after telling him that his son was involved in a rape and his arrest was imminent.

The owner (who later found out that there was no rape case against his son), complained to the Lokayuta police who laid a trap, said Deputy Superintendent of Police D S Raghuwanshi.

The bribe was negotiated down to Rs 1 lakh and a ten-member Lokayukta police team today arrested Katiyar in his chamber in the police station after the complainant gave him Rs 50,000 as the first instalment.
