MP: Priest gets 10-yr RI for abducting, raping minor girl

A 24-year-old priest was today sentenced to ten-year rigorous imprisonment by a fast track court here for allegedly kidnapping and raping a minor girl after taking her to religious places in Uttar Pradesh.

The sentence was handed down by presiding officer and Additional Session Judge, Savita Singh to Pankaj Sharma (24) under sections 363 (abduction), 366 (abducting a girl for forcibly establishing physical relations) and 376 (rape).

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,500 on him.

Additional Public Prosecutor, Ravindra Desai told reporters that Sharma, a resident of Banganga was found guilty of kidnapping and raping the 16-year-old girl, who was his tenant's daughter.
 

Sharma had abducted the girl on December 9, 2013 and took her to Mathura and Vrindavan where he raped her in hotels.

Police reached Sharma on the basis of his mobile phone call details and later rescued the girl from his captivity.
