MP receives Rs 7.8 crore donations for Nepal quake relief

The amount has been deposited in a special bank account opened by the state government

Madhya Pradesh government has so far received donations of over Rs 7.81 crore towards relief for earthquake-affected people in Nepal.

The Himalayan country was jolted by a powerful earthquake on April 25.

"The government has received Rs 7,81,30,586 as donation from people of Madhya Pradesh for relief to earthquake-affected people of Nepal and other areas," an official of the state Public Relations department said.

The amount has been deposited in a special bank account opened by the state government. Donations from various cities of MP are still pouring in, he said.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has appealed to the people to contribute generously for helping the quake-hit people of Nepal.
 
The donations will finally be handed over to the Centre for further necessary action, he added.
