Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) sources today said the panel has taken cognizance of the incident, where police apathy has been blamed for the youth's death, after it was widely reported in the media.
Commission Chairman Justice (retd) A K Saxena has written to DGP Nandan Dube seeking details about the episode, they said, adding the police chief has been asked to give his reply within seven days.
Ravi Dangi, in his early 20s, was stabbed in Rajendra Nagar area on August 21 after he along with friend Ankit stood up to four youths who passed lewd remarks at the girl and tried to outrage her modesty.
Bleeding profusely, Ravi was rushed to Rajendra Nagar Police Station by his friends. His friends and family, including father Suresh Dangi, alleged that Ravi lay bleeding for over an hour as policemen completed formalities like recording statements.
"My son would have survived had police taken him to hospital quickly instead of wasting precious time in formalities," Suresh Dangi said.
Inspector General (Indore range) has ordered a probe into the circumstances of Ravi's death and if it was caused due to delay in shifting him to a hospital.
Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta has said strict action will be taken if it is found that the youth died due to negligence by police.
