Because of high bidding in sand mining, big players get work and sometime they cause threat to river ecology, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan told reporters here last evening.

The government wants to check big players and open avenues for small contractors in sand mining, he said.

Despite constraints, the state has managed to attain an average growth rate of 10.2 per cent in the 11th five-year plan, he mentioned.

The chief minister charged the opposition Congress with trying to influence the Centre so as to desist it from meeting timely requirements of the state including fertilisers, gunny bags and coal.
