Two people were killed and five others seriously injured Wednesday after a sarpanch and his aides allegedly opened fire over a property dispute in Tilonda village in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, police said.

The condition of three out of the five injured is very critical.

Sarpanch of Piparkhera village panchayat, Rustam Singh Gujjar, and his aides allegedly opened fire on his cousin Devendra Gujjar and others over a family property dispute following an argument, said Morena Superintendent of Police Asit Yadav.

Devendra (45) and Ajay Gujjar (35) were killed on the spot while five of their associates were seriously injured, he said.

The police officer said Rakesh, Sri Bhawan and Ramniwas are in very critical condition.

"The trio were rushed to Gwalior for advanced treatment. Two others who were seriously injured in the incident are admitted at district hospital," the SP said.

Rustam Singh and six of his accomplices have been booked on charges of murder and attempt to murder, he said, adding that no arrest is made so far.

Yadav said police personnel have been deployed in large numbers at Tilonda village, around 14 kms from Morena, to prevent any flare up.
