Processions of urns containing the ashes of late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee left for various cities from Bhopal today for their immersion into rivers.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state unit BJP chief Rakesh Singh handed over the urns to the party leaders and ministers from various districts who gathered at the party headquarters "Deendayal Parisar" here.
The urns were handed over to state unit chiefs of the party in Delhi yesterday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
The urns were today placed on flower-bedecked vehicles parked at the Deendayal Parisar and taken out in processions. BJP leaders and ministers accompanied the vehicles.
The ashes will be immersed into Parvati, Kshipra, Tapti, Son, Betwa, Pench, Sindh and Ken rivers in Chanchoda in Guna district, Ujjain, Burhanpur, Rewa, Orchha, Parasia, Datia and Panna cities, respectively.
The chief minister will on August 25 accompany a similar procession for Hoshangabad, a distance of around 60 kms from Bhopal, where the ashes will be immersed into the Narmada river.
