Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) objected to the Rs 6,500-crore package announced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for Kalyan-Dombivli region and lodged a complaint against him for violating the poll code, a party official said here today.

The MPCC delegation led by Ratnakar Mahajan, submitted a compact disc of Fadnavis's speech and newspaper clippings about the announcement he made, to the State Election Commissioner J S Saharia.

Mahajan said that the Maharashtra Chief Minister made the announcement of a package for the Kalyan-Dombivali region with an eye on votes since polls are scheduled on November 1.

He told reporters that the Congress has sought action against the Maharashtra Chief Minister.

Last weekend, Fadnavis was in Kalyan as part of the BJP's election campaign.

He said that the Fadnavis-led government had recently hiked fuel prices and burdened the common man to generate funds for drought relief.

In Kalyan, Fadnavis announced a package of Rs 6,500 crore for the development of the Kalyan-Dombivali region though the model election code had come into force, he said.
