The agitators are the oustees of Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar projects on river Narmada. The backwaters has submerged the villages as the reservoir of these two dams is full to the brim.
The notice was issued by MPHRC acting chairman Justice A K Saxena on a joint memoradum submitted by social workers L S Hardenia (AISF), Rakesh Diwan (media activist), Deepak Bhatt (PUCL) and Sarika Sinha (Jan Pahel) yesterday.
The activists have drawn the attention of the MPHRC by highlighting that the dam oustees were staging protests in Khandwa and Harda district by standing in water, which has reached up to their chin. The villagers of Ghogalgaon and Khardana were staging protests by remaining inside water for the last seven days.
The activists have further alleged that the administration was doing nothing for them.
They said that it was also the violation of the Supreme Court guideline that rehabilitation should be done within six months before the places get submerged as many families were yet to be rehabilitated.
The MPHRC has directed that water level of the dams should be raised by taking into account all the consequences and the local administration must ensure that no loss of life was reported in this situation failing which "extreme action can be taken against them."
