The Madhya Pradesh Madarsa Board (MPMB) has asked 2,700 madrassas affiliated to it to organise "Paigam-e-Mohabbat" (message of love) processions this Independence Day.

"Madrassas have been asked to take out these processions in 50 out of 51 districts on Independence Day," board chairman Syed Imad Uddin said.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging interfaith mingling, he said.

He has issued a directive that madrassas should hoist the national flag and merge the "Paigam-e-Mohabbat" rallies taken out by various organisations on August 15, Uddin said.

If no such rallies are planned, then madrassas should take out their own Paigam-e-Mohabbat processions in their respective areas, he said.

In Bhopal, the processions would be called "Paigam-e-Aman" (message of peace) as another organisation has named its rally 'Paigam-e-Mohabbhat', he added.

Madrassas have also been asked to hold cultural programmes that day and send videos of the events which the MPMB will upload on its website, the chairman said.

Such functions are being organised by madrassas affiliated to the board for the past three years, he added.
