A delegation of BJP MPs were today stopped by police from going to Fatehganj Paschim area where tension prevailed following the defilement of a place of worship.

The group comprising Aonla MP Dharmendra Kashyap, Bulandshahr MP Bholashankar Singh, Shahjahanpur MP Krishnaraj and BJP office bearers were on its way to Fatehganj Paschim when they were stopped at CB ganj area here, police said.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by Union Minister Santosh Gangwar and BJP MPs met Bareilly DIG RKS Rathore to discuss about the prevailing situation and demand that no atrocities were committed on BJP workers.

"If any BJP men were involved in the incident, he should be arrested on the basis of videography done by the police but they should not be unnecessarily harassed," Gangwar said.

Local BJP MLA Rajesh Agarwal had alleged that BJP workers were being harassed by police under ruling Samajwadi Party's "pressure".

On January 15, police had resorted to mild force and lobbed tear gas shells when locals indulged in brick batting to demand the arrest of those responsible for defilement of a place of worship in Fatehganj Paschim area on January 14.

Tension was prevailing in the area since the incident took place as locals have alleged that this was the third incident in last two weeks, but no action was taken by police even after lodging complaint.
