MPT told to take precautions to avoid oil spill from dry dock

The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) has been asked to take all precautions to ensure that there is no oil spill from the dry dock that partially sunk in the waters near Vasco town.

The fears of oil spill has been looming large near the water section around Mormugao Port Trust in Vasco town after Western India Shipyard Limited 's (WISL) dry dock partially sunk there last week.

"In view of recent developments regarding WISL's oil spill, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar held an urgent meeting with officials of MPT," the CMO said in a statement released here.

MPT Chairman has submitted that there is no oil in the WISL dry dock but about 100 litres of diesel is present in the generator and WISL will remove the same by May 23, 2017, the statement read.
 

MPT has assured the CM that all precautions are being taken to ensure that there is no oil spill, the CMO has said.

The dry dock had partially sunk on May 17 following which MPT had put the booms to control any possible oil spill.

The MPT had also filed police complaint against WISL accusing them of negligence due to which the dry dock partially ran aground.
