Activists of Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) and TDP workers today clashed in Nizamabad town of Telangana over the issue of categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs), police said.

A group of around 10 MRPS activists stormed into a hall in Nizamabad city, where a meeting of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers was in progress.

Protesting against TDP's stand over categorisation of SCs, the MRPS workers raised slogans against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, police said.

As the protesters tried to disrupt the meet, a few TDP workers caught hold of one of them and bashed him up. Some other activists also exchanged blows, police said.

Chairs inside the hall and window-panes of a TDP leader's car were also damaged during the clash.

"Both TDP and a group of MRPS supporters clashed, however police immediately intervened and dispersed the crowd. Eight MRPS activists were taken into custody in connection with the incident," Nizamabad District Superintendent of Police S Chandrasekhar Reddy told PTI.

The protesters demanded that AP government should provide 12 per cent reservation to SCs.

MRPS has been demanding amendment in the Constitution for categorisation of SCs.
