A private electrician hired by the MSEDCL was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 700 for replacing a faulty meter, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) said today.
The accused, Jitendra Krushna Gajare, who worked for the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), demanded and accepted Rs 700 bribe from a domestic power consumer Rehamat Rasul Khan, a resident of Gandhi Nagar here, for meter replacement work.
The complainant approached the Thane unit of the ACB consequenty upon which the officials of the ACB PI Vishali Pawar laid a trap and arrested the accused near the Kasturi plaza accepting the bribe money from the complainant.
"The contractor has been charged under section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and offence registered with the local police station," SP ACB Thane Unit Datta Karale said.
