Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) has tied up with general insurance firm Liberty Videocon to conduct an inter-club tournament which would feature over 200 teams.

The state-level tournament, beginning in mid-February and ending in second week of April, is for players over 25 years of age and would be played in three tiers, it was announced at a media conference here today.

"The first tier is a city level event and the winners from this would advance to zonal championships across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Nashik, Nagpur, Solapur, Kolhapur and Aurangabad. The zonal champions would play the finals at Mumbai," the organisers said.

The winners of the inter-club event would receive Rs 2 lakh, while the losing finalists would get Rs 1 lakh. The insurance firm would provide group personal accident cover for players and coaches taking part in the tournament.

"So many players in Maharashtra play tennis but they are not at peak fitness and there are chances of injuries. As per this tie-up they are covered for the year," said MSLTA President Sharad Kannamwar.
