Union Minister Giriraj Singh today said the MSME Ministry is exploring the possibility of using solar power for operating charkha.

"The efforts of the ministry are on to develop a technology which will enable operation of charkha with the help of solar energy," the Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) said while addressing a meeting at Thane Small Scale Industries Association (TSSIA) here.

Singh said in Khadi industries charkha has attained extreme importance and it is being extensively used.

"Even now a lot of yarn is spun with charkha's help and the cloth is exported to various countries," the minister said.

According to Singh, MSMEs have a major contribution towards country's economy as they generate more employment in lesser investment.
