"We want both the digital and analogue systems to continue simultaneously depending on the ground reality in the state for completion of the digitisation process," state urban development minister Firhad Hakim said here today.
"Many subscribers here have already installed set-top boxes, but many consumers are yet to install it due to shortage in supply of equipment and higher prices," he said.
A team of MSOs, led by Sudip Ghosh, director of Manthan, met the minister today, saying they have prepared a package for the BPL card-holders offering them digital transmission with 75 channels against a payment of Rs 75 plus taxes, besides set-top boxes at a cost of Rs 450 only.
Ghosh also said that 90 per cent subscribers have already received STBs and the rests would get it soon. Hakim, however, received a feedback that a little over 50 per cent subscribes only had accessed STBs in the state so far.
Hakim told them that the state government would assess the situation on its own and give its opinion in appropriate time.
Responding to request by the state government, the Centre had extended the deadline more than once for complete digitisation of the cable TV network.
