threatened to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha election in the state, where there is only one seat.
MSU leaders said that they had submitted a memorandum to Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath on January 24 asking him not to allow Bru voters lodged in the relief camps in neighbouring Tripura to exercise franchise in the elections in Mizoram.
"The meeting of MSU Executive Committee held in Aizawl yesterday decided that we would boycott the coming parliamentary election if the Brus in Tripura relief camps were be allowed to vote from their camps," a student leader said.
He lamented that the Bru voters, who migrated to Tripura on their own will and refused to return to Mizoram despite repeated appeals by the Centre, Mizoram government and Mizo civil societies, were given undue favour by the Election Commission.
Despite repeated submission of representations, the Election Commission continued to allow the Bru voters in the relief camps to vote during elections in Mizoram, the MSU regretted.
