New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio also commented on the VMAs' return to the city, saying that he's "excited." He added, "From the red carpet to the accolades to the performances - and everything in between - the VMAs are an incredible showcase for so many talented artists."
The upcoming show will mark the 16th time the VMAs airs from New York. The event first broadcast in 1984 from NYC's Radio City Music Hall.
It last visited the city in 2013, when Miley Cyrus twerked on Robin Thicke during their much-talked-about performance at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
