Heavy rains in and around Pune have led to mudslides on the road to Lavasa township, the hill city developed by the industrial group HCC, 60 km from here, and disrupted the traffic since yesterday.

Pune district police said the tourists returning to Pune had to take an alternative, longer route via Warasgaon.

A large amount of soil slipped from the hill-slope near Ekant Hotel on the road leading to Lavasa yesterday.

Lavasa Corporation's spokesperson said in a release that the area has witnessed incessant heavy rains for the last fortnight.

It led to minor landslides on roads leading to the hill city. However, there was no damage to life or property and the road block was being cleared by the Lavasa's Emergency Response Team, it stated.

Police said that after yesterday's incident, the vehicular traffic was restricted and the work to remove the mud from the road was going on, however, more mud fell onto the road today.

Lavasa Corporation has appealed the tourists to avoid coming to the hill city for at least couple of days.
