The Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) was today thrown open to the public after a gap of over one month, much to the excitement of the summer tourists.

The MTR was closed on April 10 due to dry conditions, threatening forest fire and also animals coming out of the forests for water.

However, the recent good rains have helped replenish thewater sources and also the surroundings have become verdant with foliage, forest department sources said.

Considering the situation, the authorities have thrown open the reserve, a major tourist attraction, keeping in mind the heavy inflow of seasonal tourists, they said.

The elephant safari and vehicle safari also commenced, the sources said.
