Mukhiya's husband shot dead over extortion demand

The husband of a Mukhiya (village headman) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Mahuawa village in Bihar's East Champran district over demand for extortion, a police officer said today.

The incident took place late last night when the Birendra Thakur (50), husband of Mukhiya Malti Devi was riding on his motorcycle to attend a marriage ceremony when unidentified assailants intercepted him and fired indiscriminately resulting in his death on the spot, Additional Superintendent of Police, P K Mandal said.

Son of deceased has lodged an FIR against three accused persons Pappu Pandey, Rudal Pandey and Kunal Singh alleging they had demanded extortion money from his father, the ASP added.
 

Police has arrested Pappu Pandey, while others are absconding, the ASP said adding raids are being carried out to nab the culprits.
