SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today said that stern action would be taken against those responsible for the alleged gangrape and forcible conversion of a woman in Meerut.

In reply to a question regarding the incident, Mulayam, after inauguration of Janeshwar Mishra park in Gomti Nagar, said stern action would be taken against those responsible.

A 20-year-old woman was allegedly abducted, gang-raped and forcibly converted in Kharkhauda area of Meerut district leading to communal tension there.

Three persons have been arrested by police in this connection.

BJP has demanded an inquiry into the incident and slammed the SP government led by Mulayam's son Akhilesh Yadav.

"People have to take to streets to get FIR registered in rape and other cases in the state. In Kharkahuda incident, the family members managed to get an FIR registered after nine hours," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak had alleged.

BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai alleged that communal angle was certainly involved in the incident, but the government was not taking it seriously.

He said SP was not able to run the government and was blaming BJP for violence.
