Press Trust of India Dehradun
Members of an animal welfare NGO successfully rescued a mule from the flash flood hit area of Son Prayag in Rudraprayag district, sources said today.

According to Pankaj Pokhriyal, a volunteer with NGO People for Animals, the mule which was trapped on the other side of the Mandakini river in Son Prayag, was yesterday rescued with the help of a private aviation company.

Scores of mules, which used to ferry pilgrims on their backs to the Kedarnath shrine, too, fell victim to the natural calamity that struck Uttarakhand last month.

While locals and NGOs like Pokhriyal's have rescued hundreds of mules from the Kedarnath area, a large number of the animals are still said to be trapped in the inaccessible areas.
