A Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam militant was apprehended during a joint operation by the Army and the police today from Modati village in lower Assam's Kokrajhar district, a defence spokesman said.
Based on intelligence inputs on the presence of the MULTA extremist at Modati, the team launched an operation and nabbed him with a pistol and live ammunition, the spokesman said.
Activity of MULTA and similar groups have increased in view of the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections to create law and order problems then, he said.
The apprehended insurgent was involved in many extortion and kidnapping activities in the area, the spokesman added.
