To curb the menace of drug abuse, the Haryana government is adopting a multi-pronged strategy, a state minister said today.

The process of constituting special teams for this purpose has started and it has been decided to make police action against suppliers of drugs more effective and strict while awareness is also being spread, he said.

Haryana's minister of state for social justice and empowerment, Krishan Kumar, was speaking at a function on the occasion of the 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' here today.

He said that while Punjab has been affected by the evil of drug abuse, the situation in Haryana was still "largely under control".

Kumar urged the youth to stay away drugs and motivate others to also stay away from drugs.

Emphasising that use of drugs was not a part of the Indian culture and rather, other countries were supplying drugs to the youth in India to weaken the social structure.

The efforts of the people and the society are also required to end this evil, he added.

The minister also felicitated the organisations, officers and employees who had made significant contribution towards curbing drug abuse.
