The Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) plans to construct 724 apartments in six multi-storeyed structures to house displaced people who lived in the twin towers of Madhavnagar and Keshavnagar, which had collapsed on August 2013, killing 11 people and injuring three others.
"These apartments will be built on public-private partnership (PPP) model," VUDA Chairman Naranbhai V Patel said.
Talking to PTI here today , Patel said, "Gujarat Finance and Energy Minister Saurabhbhai Patel will lay the foundation stone for these multi-storeyed structures at the same site on Friday, November 14".
An Ahmedabad-based N A Construction company has been awarded the Rs 25-crore contract to construct these multi-storeyed structures, Patel said.
Talking to PTI today, VUDA's Assistant Chief Engineer and Assistant Town Development Officer A C Vyas said, "After getting approval of the redevelopment plan from the Gujarat government, the bid was finalised after an online e-tendering process".
"The government has approved the structure of a seven- storeyed (not more than 40 metres) building. The builder will be allowed to construct seven floors with an FSI of three as some space has also to be left around the constructions," he said adding that authorities have also laid down a 10-year-guarantee condition for the developer.
Developers will be responsible for maintenance and repair of the structure for ten years, while VUDA would also employ third party inspection to ensure quality of construction at every stage.
The design of multi-storeyed structures have been approved by a committee which oversaw e-tendering of redevelopment of the twin towers, which the chief executive authority, the town planner and city engineers of VUDA, Vyas said.
He said that these multi-storeyed structures would have several facilities which were not available in the two towers called Madhavnagar and Keshavnagar, which had collapsed.
