Punjab Transport Department today directed all district administrations to impound vehicles with multi-tone horns besides penalising the offenders and cancelling their driving licenses.
Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar said here that the rules framed under Central Motor Vehicles Act clarify that "no motor vehicle, including agricultural tractor, shall be fitted with any multi-tone horn giving a succession of different notes or with any other sound producing device an unduly harsh, shrill, loud or alarming noise."
He said that only police vehicles, fire brigades and ambulances were permitted under the law to use multi-tone horns and that also in the course of their duties.
