Multidisciplinary body needed to coordinate maritime a'vities

It is imperative for India to constitute a multi-disciplinary body to coordinate maritime activities as many of its neigbours have shown great vision and harnessed the sector to contribute to their prosperity, Admiral (retd) Arun Prakash said here today.

"Many of our Asian neighbours have shown great vision and harnessed the maritime sector gainfully to contribute to their prosperity. It is therefore imperative for decision makers in India to constitute a multi-disciplinary body for coordination of activities in the maritime domain," he said.

The Admiral was delivering a lecture on 'India's maritime Security: Challenges and Response' after inaugurating the UGC Centre for maritime Studies in Pondicherry University.
 

Vice Chancellor in-charge Professor Anisa B Khan presided and coordinator of the new Centre Dr A Subramanyam Raju welcomed those present, a university release said.
