A man was arrested from Dharavi in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon for allegedly raping a five- year-old girl, police said.
The girl was found unconscious at Arora Junction in Matunga on Thursday morning and a check-up at civic-run Sion Hospital nearby confirmed she had been sexually assaulted, an official said.
The police, at the time, had managed to trace the victim's mother who filed a rape complaint.
A special team working under the supervision of the local deputy commissioner nabbed Atik Noushad Hussein Sheikh from Shahunagar area of Dharavi, he informed.
"We zeroed in on the suspect after going through CCTV images of the vicinity. His picture was circulated in the area, and on a tip-off, a team went to Shahunagar and arrested him on Saturday," the official said.
He has been charged under section 376AB (rape on woman under 12 years of age) of the Indian Penal Code as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official informed.
