Mumbai Metro One today announced installation of the rooftop solar panels on all 12 stations on the 11 km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor, operated by it, as well as in depot area.
"The rooftop solar panels will be installed at four locations in its depot and at all the 12 stations. The entire solar power generating system will have an installed capacity of 2.3 MW, out of which about 2 MW will be produced from the rooftop installations at stations and remaining from the panels set up at the depot," the company said in a statement issued here.
The company Mumbai Metro One will also install light-emitting diode (LED) lighting at metro stations, depot, and administrative buildings to reduce its electricity consumption.
"The electricity generated from the solar panels will be utilised for non-traction use in activities like lighting, air-conditioning and maintenance," it said.
Mumbai Metro's auxiliary power requirement for non-traction use is 6.9 MW, 30 per cent of which will be met with solar energy once the system is up and running. The work on setting up rooftop solar panels will begin soon and take about six months to complete.
"This initiative is a part of the 'go green go clean' campaign launched to mark its second anniversary on June 8, 2016," the statement added.
For the expansion of the Kabi Subhas-Biman Bandar (Kabi
Subhas airport) project, the official said there were a few bottlenecks and all will be addressed promptly.
Talking about the Baranagar-Dakshineswar-Barrackpore Metro railway project, the senior official said as there were several problems in the Dakshineswar-Barrackpore sector, "priority has been given to the expansion from Noapara till Dakishneswar."
In fact, deadlines of 24 months have been set up for Joka-BBD Bagh, and for the Noapara-Dakshinewar project, a timeline of 18 months has been given, he said.
Incidentally, a meeting was today held at the secretariat after the Centre allocating huge funds for the metro railway projects in the state.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, state Chief Secretary Basudeb Bandyopadhyay and other senior officials of the state government and representatives from the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) were present at the meeting.
The Centre has set aside over Rs 17,810 crore for metro projects across the country in the Union Budget for 2017-18, which is a jump of nearly 14 per cent over last years allocation.
