Mumbai police file 12,000 cases under campaign against honking

Mumbai police have taken action against 12,000 persons in last two months as part of their campaign to stop unnecessary honking.

Police have launched a "Horn Flu" campaign against honking, Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar told reporters here today.

Action has been taken against 12,000 persons in last two months as part of their campaign to stop unnecessary honking. Around 1,000 cases have been filed by police for causing noise pollution, he said.

Meanwhile, Sumaira Abdulali of Awaaz Foundation said the noise level due to fire crackers this Diwali was 10 per cent lower than the previous year.

Last year, the noise level stood at 123 decibels, while this year it was 113 decibels, she said.
