Mumbai woman held with brown sugar worth Rs 50 lakh

A 21-year-old woman was today arrested by the sleuths of anti-narcotics cell for allegedly possessing brown sugar worth Rs 50 lakh, police said.

Sameera Ahmed Ansari had come to the city from Mumbai to sell off the contraband which weighted one kg, they said.

We had received a tip-off that the woman, a resident of Kurla in Mumbai, was supposed to come to Pimpri area today, an official said.

"A surveillance was laid and the woman was arrested and brown sugar worth Rs 50 lakh was seized from her possession," he said.

According to the official, the criminal record of the woman is being investigated and help of Mumbai police has been sought.
 

Police said a case under relevant sections of IPC and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against her.
