The incident happened last week and the victim Bhavika Mehta is now recuperating in the ICU of Mulund hospital in suburban Mumbai, they said.

Last week, Bhavika and her five other family members had boarded a train from Amristar for Mumbai. They had boarded the non-AC coach. Around 1:30 am, she realised that someone snatched her bag. Since her seat was close to the door, she followed the thief. But when she tried to resist, he pushed her from the train, the officials said.

The train was slowing down when it was nearing the Ambala station. While trying to resist him, her left leg came under the wheels.

Her father Kiran also jumped from the train after hearing her screams. Later, her relatives pulled the chain and started looking for them. Police were alerted at Ambala station. A case has been registered with Ambala railway police.
