Unknown assailants today shot dead a civic body contractor here for allegedly refusing to pay an extortion of Rs five lakh they had demanded earlier, police said.
Jagvir, the 47-year-old contractor working with the Municipal Board of Sikandrabad, was on his way to Sikandrabad town from his village Prangarh under Sikandrabad police station when the incident took place.
According to the uncle of the deceased, the assailants allegedly fired six shots on Jagvir, killing him on the spot, barely 100 meters from his house.

The deceased had received an extortion call for Rs five lakh and the matter was reported to the police.
Bulandshahr SSP Muniraj G, who reached the spot, claimed that the matter is being probed and will be solved soon.
