Municipal council chief officer among 3 held for taking bribe

Three persons, including the chief officer of Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council here, were arrested for allegedly taking Rs 50,000 bribe from a civil engineer, ACB said today.

The civic body's chief officer Rajesh Kanade and assistant in town planning department Dinesh Nerkar had allegedly demanded Rs one lakh for sanctioning building plan of the engineer's client, SP ACB of Thane Range Shrinivas Ghadge said.

Later, the deal was settled for Rs 50,000, he said.

The civil engineer lodged a complaint with the Thane unit of ACB which laid a trap last night at Kanade's office and arrested him, Nerkar and another person, identified as Narendra Patil.
 

Nerkar was nabbed while he was allegedly accepting Rs 25,000 while Kanade was caught taking Rs 25,000 through Patil, he said.

The three arrested have been charged under sections 7,13(1)(d) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, he added.
