Municipal Council has been booked for allegedly receiving Rs 3.21 lakh as land acquisition reward illegally, police said here today.

Dharambir Verma, vice president of the Bahadurgarh Municipal Council, has been booked under various sections of the IPC, they said.

According to reports, Shanti Devi, a widow from Aasauda Todran village here, had lodged a complaint with the district authorities that her land was acquired by the state government for a highway project in April 2006.

"The government had later announced Rs 3,21,000 as reward in lieu of my acquired land but the amount was illegally received by Dharambir Verma through my village numbardar after misguiding the government officials in this regard," she stated in her complaint.

Taking a serious view on the complaint, the district authorities handed over the matter for investigation to district revenue office and HSIIDC, which later submitted an inquiry report charging Verma with committing fraud.

"The accused will be arrested soon," Vijay Dahiya, SHO of the Bahadurgarh Sadar Police said.

Verma had earlier been booked on the complaint of Mukesh Kumar, secretary of the Council, in connection with building plan scam that surfaced some months ago.

In his complaint, Mukesh had charged Verma with misplacing 21 officials files pertaining to building construction and passing 25 suspicious building plans on the basis of forged documents.

Verma later went to jail in this case, which is still pending before a local court.
