Municipal polls: Capt appeals to rebels to withdraw

If they did not withdraw from the contest, stern action would taken against them, he said.

After its unimpressive show in the assembly election in Punjab in January this year, the Congress faces the acid test in this month's Municipal Corporation polls in Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar and Amritsar.

With over a week to go for the civic polls, Amarinder had asked all the rebels to withdraw from the contest by June four, failing which they would be expelled from the party for a period of six years.

He said this was the time for the party rank and file to unite.

 

The rebels had become achilles' heel for the Congress in the last assembly election.
