A 25-year-old murder accused who was arrested two days ago allegedly tried to commit suicide in a toilet of Aman Vihar police station in outer Delhi today.

He was admitted to a hospital where his condition is stable, police said.

Anil alias Bawa had allegedly shot dead Ghanshyam, a resident of Aman Vihar, on the night of Diwali, while playing cards, police said.

He along with an accomplice were absconding after the alleged murder. He was arrested on Saturday and was taken in two days custody, a senior police officer said.

"He was scheduled to be presented in the court in the morning today. He was taken to the toilet where he attempted to commit suicide by slitting his neck with some sharp-edged object which is yet to be found," the officer said.

Anil, however, told the police that he had used a tile to slit his throat and later washed it down the toilet flush.

He was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital after he came out of the toilet with blood trickling from his neck. Later, he was shifted to Max Hospital where his condition was stated to be stable by the doctors.

It is suspected that Anil, who has four criminal cases registered against him including charges of murder, attempt to murder and molestation, inflicted injuries on himself to avoid being kept in police custody as the investigators of the murder case were planning to seek extension of his custody, the officer added.
