A murder convict serving a life sentence at Chamoli district jail in connection with the killing of poetess Madhumita Shukla allegedly attacked the jailer incharge in collusion with a co-prisoner today prompting authorities to lodge an FIR against the duo.

Santosh Kumar Rai who is serving a life sentence at the jail for killing poetess Madhumita Shukla and another murder convict in a different case named Waseem Walia attacked jailer incharge of the jail Karmaraj Chauhan this morning, Chamoli District Magistrate Vinod Kumar Suman said.

The Additional District Magistrate has rushed to the spot to get details of the incident and an FIR lodged against the duo, the DM said.

Rai and Walia had been shifted to Chamoli district jail from Pauri jail and Haridwar jail respectively only two months back.

Rai was convicted for the murder of poetess Madhumita Shukla along with former Uttar Pradesh minister Amarmani Shukla and his wife Madhumani some years ago.
