A murder convict, serving life imprisonment, was caught at Pandua in Burdwan district while trying to escape, police said.

Tapas Majhi, who did not report after expiry of his 15-days parole period on December seven, was tracked through a mobile tower at Pandua rail gate while trying to escape in a truck last night.

Majhi, who had been convicted in a murder case and facing charges including Sec 302 of the IPC, had been granted parole in the last week of November last year, due to his conduct in jail.

He had been convicted in a murder case in 2008 and lodged in Alipore Central Jail.

"He was intercepted from rail gate while travelling in the truck as our team kept tab on his movements from the tower location of his mobile. Investigations reveal he was trying to cross over to Bangladesh," Burdwan SP S M H Mirza said.
